The Level Playing Field Institute's SMASH Program is a free of cost, STEM-intensive college preparatory program for underrepresented high school students of color.

The program includes rigorous 5-week, 3-year summer, fully residential STEM & CS coursework and access to mentors, role models, and support networks. Coursework also reinforces critical thinking, civic awareness, leadership and sense of social responsibility.

In addition to their summer courses, SMASH scholars remain engaged during the school year through monthly workshops, including SAT prep, college counseling, financial aid workshops.


  • Be in the 9th grade at the time of application.
  • Have strong mathematics skills
  • Attend a public high school or private high school via scholarship
  • From groups traditionally underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics // first-gen // low-income
